TESTIMONY
I was raised in a Christian home and attended a Bible believing church where the truth of God’s salvation through His Son Jesus was taught and lived. I believed this truth for myself when I was young and actively sought to grow in my relationship with Christ throughout my teenage years. When I was 15, I took my first trip overseas to the Philippines and from that point on had a desire to serve the Lord in overseas missions. After high school, I attended Columbia International University and majored in Intercultural Studies and minored in Bible Teaching. I always loved music, and when I graduated from college, I began singing out regularly at coffeehouses, churches and various venues in the area. I also became involved in various ministries at my church, including music, teaching Sunday School, youth ministry, and participating in short-term missions trips overseas. However, it was during this time that I walked away from the Lord and from what I had always believed about how I should live as a Christian. In His mercy, He brought me to a place of repentance and restoration, and in the years following, gave me a deeper understanding about His grace and salvation in my life. He allowed me to be restored to ministry and gave me several opportunities to travel again overseas to Germany and Eastern Europe.
CALLING
Because of God’s unending grace and intimate love toward me, my desire is to use the gifts that He has given me to bring attention to Him and His grace and love for the young adults in Germany & Eastern Europe. Through the relationships built as a result of English conversation, music, and short-term teams, I want to share this truth and encourage them to enter into the relationship with Jesus Christ for which they were created. During a recent trip to Germany, He opened my heart up to the people there and showed me ways that the gifts He gave me can be used in that setting. I’m excited about the ministry that He has prepared for me to do there, and look forward to the rest of my story with Him.
MUSIC BIOGRAPHY
Mindy Boyd is a songwriter, and has been writing her own music since the age of 6. As a little girl on a swing in her front yard, she would sing her thoughts and feelings about life, family, nature, and God. Now as an adult, she continues to express her thoughts and feelings about these things in a style that both captivates the listener and conveys the emotions of her heart. Her years of experience, both in leading worship and performing on-stage, have given her the ability to communicate in a way that is natural and easy to relate to. Authenticity and vulnerability are what she strives for in her music, and when listening to Mindy sing, you quickly realize that you have been invited into the most candid entries of her journal.
After graduating from college, she returned to her home in Lancaster, PA where she began singing with Tina (Redcay) Lapp. What began as a simple request for the duo to sing at a local Christmas party quickly escaladed to invitations to play many different coffeehouses, restaurants, churches, conferences, and festivals in the area. They also opened for several local bands, including Rob Trigalet, Changeless, Steve Bridgeman and Reveal. The musical journey of Tina and Mindy also included the release of two independent records: This Road (2000) and Where I Am (2003); as well as Closer to Home, a compilation project with other local artists such as Reveal, Marty Shaughnessy, and Steve Bridgeman. The Closer to Home project gave them the opportunity to do radio interviews and receive airplay on WJTL, and eventually took them to the fringe stage at the Purple Door Arts Festival in 2002.
In 2004, when Tina decided to start a family, Mindy began a solo career. Since then, the invitations she has received have given her opportunities to share her music nationally, as well as internationally in countries such as Germany, Hungary, Bolivia, and Hong Kong. Her most recent album, Coming Home, was her first solo project and was released in October 2006.
MUSIC REVIEWS
“Mindy’s music has its roots as much in today’s Americana movement as it does in the singer/songwriter explosion of the late 60’s. She has the uncanny ability to pull from personal experience and weave it together in an allegorical fashion that is absent in much of today’s popular music. On stage, her lithe approach to the song and unique style of storytelling is both refreshing and captivating.”
--Tim neely, producer
"Mindy's music comes from the heart, and it reaches the heart. Her beautiful voice and sweet guitar playing draw the listener into a holy place. Whenever I listen to Mindy, it deepens my hunger for God.” --Ken Stewart, Pastor of Worship at Calvary Monument Bible Church
"Mindy Boyd has made her mark locally in the female duo Tina and Mindy. Recently however, she has found herself test-driving life as a solo artist. Mindy is a talented and clever artist, providing a solid artistic place for the song-lover to stand amid a sea of musical sand. Much the way a brush comes alive in a painter’s hand, Mindy’s music brings to light daily discoveries like only a peddler of words can do.
Mindy has an uncanny ability to blur genre lines indiscriminately creating unyielding music for those seeking the softest of sonic response. I know that local singer songwriters can seem as numerous as Hollywood box-office bombs, but I assure you Mindy is worth your time."
--Brock Lawley, singer/songwriter
